Ok, I figured it out. It apparently has to do with the way apache handles https requests when there is no SSL certificate installed on the domain. In that case, apache redirects you to the site with the primary SSL cert on your ip. In this case the primary SSL cert is just the first one to have been added to the IP. So, that spammy looking shopping site is on the same server as me, using the same IP and they just happened to be the first website on that IP to install an SSL cert. Apparently there is no way around this other than to install an SSL cert on my own domain, so thats what I'm going to do. Thanks for taking a look at this.
